When God came to earth as a baby, he didn’t come to give us another choice. He was not becoming a new flavor of sherbet in the ice cream parlor of life. Stick with me.
God said to Abraham, I won’t burn Sodom and Gomorrah up if there are 10 good people in it. As you know, Sodom and Gomorrah burned. Ergo: no 10 good people. The city stank with wickedness. Keep reading, you’re doing good! [I know that should be "you're doing well" but "good" just works...]
In Luke 17, Jesus says that God’s Judgment is pictured in the heavenly fireball that annihilated Sodom and Gomorrah. In Matthew 11, he says that if Sodom and Gomorrah had seen the coming of the Messiah and witnessed the wonders he did, they would have repented faster than any of us. And in Luke 13, Jesus says that just because God doesn’t wipe you out today doesn’t mean you’re righteous. Get the picture? Nobody can point at anyone else and say, you sick, twisted sinner! You scum! Get right with God.
We all must get right with God.
So when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, God was not expanding the Wikipedia entry for world religions. Following Christ is not a preference. Christianity is not a lifestyle choice. Jesus is not the flavor of the month.
He’s our only fire escape. Our one lifeline. Our Savior, and the Savior of the world.
Thanks for reading all the way through. Don’t forget to always remember that God loves you, and that’s what Christmas is all about.
LATER.
