Do you have a sense of wonder? If not, shouldn’t you at least WONDER why you don’t have that sense of wonder? consider the lilies, or even the coneflowers

I think we can have our sense of wonder stolen. I mean it. When that happens, we should report a stolen sense of wonder and raise a riot about it. NOBODY steals OUR sense of wonder and gets away with it!! Right?!!

Wrong. Actually, we rarely notice. The same thing that steals our sense of wonder numbs us to the theft itself, and we continue on without realizing our new poverty of wonder. My friends, this is a crime of gigantic proportions and here’s what we can do about it.

Have a sense of gratitude to God. If you can’t have a genuine thankful heart, fake one until the real thing comes along! Seriously. Look around and start counting your blessings. Thank God for everything that’s NOT falling apart in your world. Praise him for the friends you DO have. Tell him how much you appreciate the food and the clothes and the place to sleep that he’s given you. As you do this, your sense of wonder will return to you.

Stop being impressed by pixels and start being impressed by planets. Stop being entertained by screens and start being entertained by stars. Stop staring at a monitor and start staring at a Monarch Butterfly. Watch ants on the sidewalk. Climb trees. Ask an old person to tell you about their childhood. Grow a tomato vine. Count the number of different bird songs you can hear, keeping in mind that one Mocking Bird can throw your count off by his ability to do them all with one wing tied behind his back. Gaze out the window of your car and be amazed at the number of people God created, and gave life to, and is taking care of.

Wonder. It’s priceless. Don’t leave home without it.

Talk to you soon.
