THE MAKER AND THE MASTER is my first music offering in 3 years. I had been spending my creative energy on writing books for tweens, but I kept waking up with partial songs... Song ideas continued to run me down and jump into my brain, so I decided it was time to let them out! I had maybe 40 different song beginnings and partial melodies and as I spread them out, I realized that I had more than enough material for maybe my best CD ever. I took the songs to demo form, and from there, many of them had a character that I didn't want to mess with too much. Probably less production than I've ever used, because I liked how they sounded with just piano, or just a 4 piece band backing them up.
As far as the songs themselves, I've never enjoyed meeting a group of melodies and lyrics more! The hands down favorite seems to be the title cut, "The Maker and the Master," a modern hymn with a lot of theological depth. My own personal favorite is "Best of All Time," which tells of the coming days of glory when the world will be no more. One of the most singable is the first song on the project, "Breakfast Song," one of those I woke up singing. "Fear Not" is actually three songs Mister-Potato-Headed together and it worked. "Abraham Isaac Jacob and Me" should have been on the last 4 projects, but I never really finished it until now. I listen through the CD and I find that I don't skip ahead, even when I've heard the songs so much while I was recording them. That's a good sign.
The subtitle is "Intergenerational Worship," and it really fits. I've had a couple of churches already using the tunes, much to my delight. I played and sang everything on this project, which I often come close to doing, but I have more sonic firepower at my disposal on this project than any I've done yet. I think you'll really be blessed by the songs and that you will want to "worship along" with this CD. This is one CD you've GOT to have in your car...
